US and Canada Border Flight Crossing Information: 

*New Travel Requirements for U.S. Citizens*

Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document, or an Alien Registration Card, Form I-551, if applicable.

As early as January 1, 2008, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries), may be required to present a valid passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security. While recent legislative changes permit a later deadline, the Departments of State and Homeland Security are working to meet all requirements as soon as possible. Ample advance notice will be provided to enable the public to obtain passports or passport cards for land/sea entries.

At least 24 hours prior to flight:

Canadian Side:

  Notify CAN-PASS with passengers, crew, flight (May give information via phone or FAX to 250-363-0759)

  FAX Form 7507 to US Customs (Juneau 586-9309)

Prior to flight:

USA Side:

  Complete APIS prior to flight (https://eapis.cbp.dhs.gov) (anytime before flight)
  Verify with local Customs Agent of receipt of APIS(Juneau 586-7211) – print record

Day of flight:

USA and Canadian side:

  File VFR Flight Plan with FSS (they will relay to Canadian FSS). *For Round Robin Flights into remote areas create 2 flight plans. 2nd flight plan is with a proposed time of departure which Canadian FSS will activate at the proposed time. Call Canadian FSS if Actual Time of Departure changes. 
  Call CAN-PASS before taking off. 
  Open flight plan with US FSS.

Upon landing in Canada:
  Close Flight Plan with Canadian FSS. 
  Call TEMSCO (if able or required by your base).

Before lifting back for US:
  Open Flight Plan with Canada FSS.
  Call TEMSCO (if able or required). 
  (All passengers and crew must have Current Passport accessible to them without getting out of the aircraft upon landing at the US Destination.)

Landing back in US:
  Close Flight Plan
  Call TEMSCO (if able or required by your base).
  Remain in Aircraft; have Passport ready, wait for US Customs.

Special Notes:

  • Haines, Alaska or Haines Jct, YT may NOT be used for Airports of Entry. 
  • Flight Plan must be used in Canadian Airspace at all times.
  • CANPASS can be notified up to 72 hours prior to arrival in Canada
